^Lot 664 Composite German/Spanish Model 98 Mauser Bolt Action Rifle

Composite German/Spanish Model 98 Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #742, 8x57mm, 23.6" barrel, black paint/blued finish, hardwood stock set, inverted "V" front sight with attached hood and adjustable tangent rear sight. No cleaning rod. Rifle is built from a German WWI barreled action and a Spanish stock and hand guard. Receiver ring is marked on top "S/42/1937", and the left-side receiver rail is marked "Mod.98". Rear sight leaf is marked "S/42G". Mismatched numbers on replacement bolt assembly. Condition overall is good to very good as modified, with the receiver and barrel retaining most of its applied black-painted finish. Trigger guard shows old damage and a blued finish. The wrist is cracked and chipped behind the receiver tang, and the forend shows cracks forward of the trigger guard; hand guard is cracked behind the rear sight. Action operates smoothly, bright bore is good with worn rifling. No visible import marks. Est.: $600-$800. (C&R)
