Antique U.S. Springfield Model 1871 Remington Rolling Block Single-Shot Infantry Rifle, NVSN, .50 CF cal., unmarked 36" round barrel has block-blade front (also bayonet lug) and folding-leaf rear sights; large receiver has central hammer and rolling breechblock with auto-extraction, is marked "Model 1871" at left, "(spread-wing federal eagle"/U.S./Springfield/1872" right, "Remington's Patent" and 1864-68 patent dates at top tang, has loop trigger guard with sling swivel. Oil-stained walnut forestock has 2 spring-retained bands (top with sling swivel), nosecap, slotted/grooved ramrod, matching buttstock with curved buttplate marked "US" at top. Mfg'd ca. 1871-72. Condition is very good showing clean bright metal, muted/silvered case colors, sharp edges and markings. Stocks are sound, fit "proud", show much original "feathering", dings and shallow gouges of military use. Action is crisp, bright bore shows overall frosting, sharp rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200.
