COLOMBIA, cast 4 reales-sized proclamation medal, Ferdinand VII, 1808, Santa Cruz de Mompox, rare, PCGS VF details / harshly cleaned, ex-Becerra. Restrepo-14 (p. 130); Herrera-78; Medina-381. Obverse with imaginary bust of Ferdinand VII within legend [rosette]FERNANDUS.VII.REXHISPAN.[rosette] ETIND• with retrograde N; reverse with tall cross between two palm branches on a mound within legend [rosette]PROCLAMATUSMOMPOX.IND.[rosette] with [rosette]1808.[rosette] below monogram for the region's alférez real Gabriel Martínez Guerra. Somewhat crude in design but with good contrast from dark sediment around details, no doubt rather rare, as we cannot find a comparable sale, and all the stated references show only drawings, not photos. Pedigreed to the Becerra Collection (stated on label).
