COLOMBIA, Bogotá, bust 2 reales, Charles III, 1780 J•J, no • in mintmark, extremely rare, NGC F details, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Becerra, Restrepo Plate. Restrepo-42.8; KM-unl (476 for type); Cal-746. Three known: this one, plated in Restrepo; the Ortiz Murias specimen (holed Fine) we sold in 2012; and the Dana Roberts specimen (bent VF) sold by Heritage in 2011. Slightly off-center strike with weak central details but with some luster in legends, lightly toned, dark spot on I of GRATIA, inside of which is a nest of scratches where something was removed from the surface. Pedigreed to the Becerra Collection (stated on label) and Plate Coin on page 113 of Restrepo's 2012 book Coins of Colombia (both stated on label).
