COLOMBIA, Popayán, gold 1 escudo, 1827 RU/FM, NGC MS 62, finest known in NGC census, ex-JEAS. Restrepo-162.10; Sed-unl (3 for type); KM-unl (81.2 for type); Fr-72. Bold strike overall but with slight weakness in center on reverse, lovely reddish toning over muted luster, surely the finest extant as the Eldorado/Esmeralda specimen is AU 58. (Note: NGC says RU/M but there is a trace of an F under the R as well, per the Restrepo listing.). Pedigreed to the JEAS Collection (stated on label).
