COLOMBIA, Popayán, gold 1 escudo, 1827 RU, doubled-die obverse, ex-JEAS. Restrepo-162.12 var; Sed-3; KM-81.2, Fr-72. 3.30 grams. Well-struck AXF with hairlines from cleaning, graffiti scratched into field behind head, but potentially important as a new variety with the obverse die doubled (most noticeable on Liberty's bust but also in the date), listed in Restrepo for 1826 but not this subsequent date. Pedigreed to the JEAS Collection.
