PERU, Lima, 8 reales, 1841 MB, REPUB• PERUANA, extremely rare, PCGS XF details / cleaned, finest and only example in PCGS census. KM-142.10. First date of new Liberty type with REPUB instead of REP (defined at NGC as "large wreath," which is another characteristic), an important key in the Peruvian crown series, this example with lustrous fields (hairlined, of course, but also with some stray old marks) and nicely contrasting toning, first example we have seen since the Sellschopp specimen in the September 1988 Swiss Bank Corp. auction (which was described as "Probably unique!"), a very important coin for the Peruvian or Latin American specialist or world crown collector.
