PERU, Lima, gold cob 2 escudos, 1704 H, rare, NGC AU 58, "top pop," ex-Almenara. S-L25a; Cal-1821; Fr-9; KM-36. 6.69 grams. Broad flan with much full legend including PHILIPPVS V, nice full pillars-and-waves (perfectly centered) and cross-lions-castles, the latter with light high-point rub, faintly toned, tied with one other for finest in the NGC census. Pedigreed to the Sotheby's (London) auction of October 1992 (lot 113), the UBS auction of September 1997 (lot 2356), the Glendining Auction of June 1937 (lot 390), and the Almenara Collection (stated on label).
