Lot 149 Buffalo Brewing Co. Electric Carnival Souvenir Lithograph
Given that Buffalo started in 1890, this is a very early piece! Souvenir lithograph printed on cardstock. "Commemorative Admission Day and Electric Carnival." Has three great vignettes: a California bear (top), image of the brewery with trolley (center), and buffalo head (bottom). Carnival took place on September 9th, 1895. Measures 5" x 7.5" in 8.5" x 10.5" frame. The carnival was to celebrate the introduction of electricity into Sacramento from Folsom. It happened one night during the State Fair. From a Sacramento Daily Union article on the same day: "That it will be a brilliant affair there is no doubt, and the many thousands of visitors will witness a pageant the like of which man has never yet seenwherein electricity is the power that propels and illuminates the beautiful floats, and at the same time illuminates the city. The distinction of being the pioneer in that line belongs to the Capital City, and it is one of which her people are justly proud." Burt Collection
